Travis Kelley, Sr.

Travis Kelley Sr., 76, of Milton, Florida, passed away on March 19, 2026. He was a man who could fill a room without raising his voice — though he rarely needed to, because he always had a joke ready that would do it for him.

Born and raised in Camden and a longtime resident of Warren, Travis served his country as a medic in the United States Army before building a life defined by art, humor, and an inexhaustible devotion to the people he loved. He was, by any accounting, a character — and the world is quieter without him.

He met and married Paulette in 1983. From the beginning, they built a rich and fulfilling life together. Theirs was a journey — from fishing boats to motorcycles, cruise ships, and airplanes. From the Ferrell’s pond to Italy and Hawaii, or even in their own living room, they were happy anywhere as long as they were together.

Travis had a joke for every occasion, a wisecrack for every silence, and a story for anyone willing to sit still long enough to hear it. His wit was quick, his generosity boundless, and his loyalty absolute. If Travis liked you, you knew it. If he didn’t, you knew that too. He had no talent for pretense and no patience for it either, which made his friendship all the more worth having.

And he had a great deal of it to give. Travis was famously selective about who he called a friend — a circle so exclusive it numbered only in the tens of thousands. He could often be found, beer in hand, surrounded by his second family at the local VFW, where he was as much fixture as legend.

He would move heaven and earth for the people he loved, and frequently did.

Travis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Paulette. He is survived by his daughter Stacey and son-in-law Jim Walker of Milton, Florida; his daughter Jackie Haycox and niece Haden Thurmon of Pine Bluff; and his son Travis “Lynn” Kelley Jr. and Jarvis Chen of Boston.

A private interment will be held later this year. His family is at peace with his passing and takes comfort knowing that he and Paulette are together again — and that somewhere, he already has a joke ready for whoever walks through the door next.
