The victory moved Warren to 2–1 on the season, closing out non-conference play after last week’s 28–14 road win over White Hall.

First-quarter fireworks

Watson Chapel received the opening kickoff but punted after a quick three-and-out. On Warren’s first offensive play at the 8:54 mark, Davis took a speed sweep off the right edge and exploded for a 69-yard touchdown. Jacarlos Marquez added the extra point for a 7–0 lead.

De’Sean Adams makes a tackle during the first quarter vs Watson Chapel.

At 5:01, Davis capped a short drive with a two-yard rush into the end zone, stretching the margin to 14–0. Then, just over two minutes later, he broke loose again, this time on a 29-yard run off right tackle. With Marquez hitting his third PAT of the quarter, the Jacks had stormed ahead 21–0.

Denton connects through the air

Quarterback Jackson Denton picked up where Davis left off. With 11:21 to go in the second quarter, he dropped a 29-yard touchdown strike to receiver Josiah Steen, widening the lead to 28–0.

The passing game struck again at the 4:55 mark when Denton found Tayshawn Edwards on a 34-yard scoring connection.

Moments later, Warren’s backfield rotation added another punch. Running back Aaron Woodard finished a drive with a 10-yard touchdown run at 2:24 before halftime. Marquez drilled his sixth consecutive extra point, sending the Lumberjacks into the break in complete control, 42–0.

Defense and depth close it out

The second half was played under the sportsmanship rule with a continuous clock, and Warren turned to its reserves. Backup quarterback Colton Steen entered, while Chris Alford Jr. saw action at running back.

Defensively, the Jacks’ depth showed as well. Kaystean Jacobs intercepted a pass in the third quarter to stall a Watson Chapel drive. In the fourth, Xavion Miller stripped the ball and recovered the fumble with 6:25 remaining, preserving the shutout.

Late in the game, sophomore quarterback Logan Gavin also logged reps under center, as Warren closed out the 42–0 win without adding to the scoreboard.

Up next

The Lumberjacks enter their bye week before returning to Jim Hurley Jr. Stadium on Friday, September 26, to open 8-4A conference play against DeWitt.
